Artist's Description

Driving the back roads of Florida brought us to this wise old man who shared with us his story of how he gave up alcohol and cigarettes, when a dream or event took place one night that made him 'wake up.' He was an entertaining fellow and graciously allowed me the moments to photograph him while he preached to my husband. We bought some onions and a Bible from him. He loves spreading the word of the Bible he told us.

One of the images I almost titled this He sells oranges and onions, but felt that Preacher Roadside Farmer was more appropriate. As we traveled through the backroads of Florida looking for interesting places, we found this fellow who was most delightful and had plenty of stories to share. Forget the tourist shops, this is the way to see America.

Please see previous images for more on this incredible person.

It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
