Artist's Description

Driving the backroads of Florida brought us to this wise old man who shared with us his story of how he gave up alcohol and cigarettes, when a dream or event took place one night that made him 'wake up.' He was an entertaining fellow and graciously allowed me the moments to photograph him while he preached to my husband. We bought some onions and a Bible from him. He loves spreading the word of the Bible he told us.

I have a thousand photos that I shot during vacation to Florida that year, mostly landscapes of the Gulf County/Apalachicola region. Yet, it was on the journey of our trip to Crescent City when we spied this man on a Sunday morning. He was setting up his roadside stand, somewhere along the Interlachen area. Everyone needs a once in a lifetime experience. You know the kind. One that leaves a lasting impression and even changes how you look at life, how you look at your surroundings. I wrote that in a book I published in 2009, "Riding the Chisholm Trail: Once in a Lifetime" after I had that experience that changed the way I looked at the world around me.
