Claude Sparks is the man behind the "boot" and this was shot the day after he spent an entire week riding the Chisholm Trail in the Centennial Drive of 2007. He hadn't even had time to really clean up. He rode and herded longhorns up from the Red River through two full counties and on the last day into the third county, slept under the stars and was one of many local cowboys who found themselves the star attraction of many a photographer. Claude is a real life cowboy, working and living the lifestyle of the old west, every day.

Now 10 years later, that single day and the two years it took me to edit the images and write the stories in that book, I realize it continues to impact me. It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
