Description
A young cowboy wearing a white cowboy hat is making sure he's ready for the big bull riding competition at a small town rodeo in Oklahoma on a hot June summer evening in June 2008. The American flag with its glory of red, white and blue and stars and stripes waves in the slight breeze. This is an annual open rodeo, meaning anyone who wants to give their hand at any of the events is welcome to do so, provided they pay the entry fee.
The annual Duncan Noon Lions Rodeo is a major fundraiser that generates much needed funds for eyeglasses for children and other under-privileged individuals in the community. This was the first year, June 2020, that the rodeo did not happen in more than 50 years. It was canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic. It has been the largest rodeo in southern Oklahoma, with more than 3,000 spectators over three nights to watch up to 600 cowboys and cowgirls compete. It is on schedule for June 24, 25 and 26, 2021.
