Artist's Description

This is one hat that won't fly off the hard working cowboy during his cattle drive!
This is only a piece of a fabulous monument at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, Duncan, Oklahoma. I shot this image in 2010 on one of my days off from work, at the time I was a reporter at the local newspaper. About four years later, as I was ready to leave the news career behind that I had dedicated my working life to, I went to work at this museum for nearly seven years. During that time, I had plenty of opportunities to photograph this amazing landmark!
Oklahoma sculptor, Paul Moore, is the man who created this fantastic piece, after being approached by Mr. McCasland. At the time of its permanent installation, it was the largest bronze sculpture paying tribute to the Chisholm Trail Cattle Drives of the 1800s!

This would be great as a metal image.

Now 10 years later, that single day and the two years it took me to edit the images and write the stories in that book, I realize it continues to impact me. It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
