Description
This small engine repair shop now sits abandoned (photo taken in 2017), on the main street in Waurika, Oklahoma. The ghost sign bleeds through the white wash of the building, and those doors really add to its appeal. There was a time when businesses like this thrived and were the heart of a small town and for travelers across the country. You could easily stop for directions, get your tires fixed, and learn of local gossip and find out how many head of cows your neighbor was buying or selling. The nostalgia of Americana and a lost past that may never be revived. Unfortunately, the younger generation will only hear of stories and are never interested in these old structures, other than to tear them down. It's one of the reasons I seek out the old buildings to photograph and preserve the memory of them.

Toni, I love this capture and your very important and meaningful description, so true. I always love a capture like this that tells a story, and makes you wonder just what it was all about. I believe this is essential and fascinating art.
