With a crack of his bullwhip, Bob Payne, with the help of his horse, Curdle Up, kept the longhorns in place, making sure they didn't veer into the traffice that lined the highways and roads through Jefferson and Stephens counties.
"I rode drag the first day, then Freddie (Craig) found out I was the real deal and he moved me to point. We met on the cattle drive." Bob counted the cattle head on this adventure, 434.
Born on a ranch, it's all Bob knows and loves. For 20 years he worked for Robert Gray/Gray Farms out of Enid, OK, but at age 58, less than a year after the Trail, the native Oklahoman moved out to New Mexico to work on a private ranch. (I've heard he's worked in other states since).

Thanks so much Donna! I followed this one, then two years later I got the privilege of riding in the wagon with the same group. I have yet to ever show those photos. Guess I should get busy.

I especially like this one having been on a cattle drive or two myself. I identify with this one.
