A newly painted mural in downtown Waurika, July 31, 2019, features a dramatic sky, possibly an Oklahoma storm, with a young boy and his dog by the fence watching the scene. A windmill is also featured in the distance. This mural was painted by one of Oklahoma's leading mural artists, Dr. Bob Palmer, assisted by a few other artists. Palmer doesn't only paint murals, but is an excellent artist overall. A great contributor to Oklahoma history and preservation. This is painted on the side of an old brick building on Waurika's Main Street. Notice the black silhouette style trees, something Palmer normally avoids, but wanted to enhance the dramatic scene.
Waurika is situated on the historic Chisholm Trail. It is also popular for its Waurika Lake, a premier camping, boating and fishing recreation.
*Be sure to see the other images of this mural, in closer detail, added to the Waurika and Jefferson County collection.

It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...

Nice capture of a beautiful city mural Toni! Must be the "middle of nowhere Oklahoma" you referred to :) although I think I've been through there.
