Photography Contest Becomes Family Affair

Cowboys & Indians magazine annual photography contest has become a fun family competition for Fine Art America member, Toni Hopper, and her husband, Rex. Even one of their sons have joined in the competition. It began when Toni submitted an entry at deadline for the March 2009 edition. "Cowboy Silhouette" was listed as an honorable mention image in that edition, "Photographing the West" on page 120.

It is one of her most popular viewed images online, first when it was published on Flickr, and also now on the Fine Art America and Pixels sites under her gallery of Chisholm Trail and Cowboy images. It features a cowboy and his horse on the 2007 Oklahoma Centennial Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive. In the March 2015 edition," her husband's "Where Sky Meets Land" featuring a dramatic sunset storm cloud in southern Oklahoma, was published also in the honorable mention section. That image has been featured three times in various Fine Art America groups since it was published in June...

Photographer Toni Hopper Adds New Flowers As Art Images

Digitally-manipulated photographs seems to be a growing art trend for collectors of photography. For one Oklahoma-based photographer, it's a creative process that is just another way to express her artistic moods. After evaluating her bestselling images and most viewed for 2014 and 2015, Toni Hopper has been inspired to create new content for 2016.
"I've used textures and layers for years, but very few people seemed interested in buying the images, though I received plenty of compliments on them. It just wasn't something people wanted hanging on their walls. It was hit or miss. That seems to be changing though. People are recognizing that it is art and I think people are looking for something unique."

"Gunslinger III Doc Holliday" (in fine attire) was one of Hopper's top three bestselling images in 2015, and her most profitable.

"Collectors, customers, bought it as large gallery-sized framed images and metal prints and one of its companion pieces, Doc Holliday...

Photographer Toni Hopper Has Red Dirt Road Selected For Juried Show In Denver

Red Dirt Road by Toni Hopper is one of 65 images selected for a juried show at Gallery at Studio j in Denver's Art District on Santa Fe. The show opened Aug. 1 for the month. Only 20 photographers were accepted into this show, judged by PPA Master Photographer Jeff Johnson.
"There are some great photographers, like Darren White and Steve Hirsch, who are in this show and to be included in the same show is quite an honor," Hopper said "I've been a fan of Darren White's incredible landscapes for some time now. Just as exciting, is to have someone with Jeff Johnson's status to judge my work."
Hopper has entered many shows, on a local level, both in Colorado when she lived there, and in Oklahoma, but this was the first non-regional show she's entered. She said the process pushed her to pick out a piece on deadline, submit it and quickly order it from her lab, at Fine Art America.
"Working with the individuals behind the scenes at both the Gallery at Studio j and FAA was a...

Photographer Toni Hopper Rolls Out Vintage Rides Series

Traveling around the backroads of America provides photographers a glimpse into rural life and history. Photo Artist Toni Hopper realized she had numerous old truck and car photos shot while out driving around and from attending numerous car shows over the years with her husband and two sons.
"We'd go to car shows and if I didn't have a camera in my hand, I would have been bored after a few minutes. I love looking at the old cars and have used them as backdrops for portraits for my sons when they were little. One of my favorite photos is from when they were in grade school about 16 years ago. It was shot on film, is horribly lit, to the point of underexposure. I had it printed as an 8x10 and it still hangs in my living room. I keep it there as a reminder of how far I've come with my photography."

She now is giving fresh life to the images she's shot of old rides in the past five years, through the use of digital textures. To kick off her Vintage Rides series, she is...
