Artist's Description
An artistic take on a simple public art mural on the side of a building in Duncan, Oklahoma, which celebrates the history of the iconic song, Heartbreak Hotel, made popular by Elvis.
The song was written by Hoyt Axton's mother, Mae Boren Axton, in the lobby of this same building, which was a hotel at the time. Hoyt was born in Duncan, and raised in nearby Comanche.
The public art mural does not look like this, as I have taken a creative moment to blend several images for this final rendering. My original photos are of the mural with one of my guitars.
Rhythm and Routes music trail is an Oklahoma-state project. If you ever visit Duncan, you will see several murals throughout the city, painted by Dr. Bob Palmer, who has created nearly 2,000 murals in Oklahoma. The original full size mural also includes Mae Axton, but I chose not to use all the elements in my digital art photograph.

It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
