Artist's Description

Look into my eye, said the turtle .... Imagine wearing this as a face mask! I think people would stop for a moment and then laugh. That's what we all need these days is that unexpected moment that makes us laugh.

Who hasn't seen a turtle when traveling - home or on road trips?!

This one came to visit - he wandered into my workspace one day, so I grabbed my camera and did a quick turtle study/portrait session. He was cooperative and then I let him go on his way - outside. I've added a few images of him to my gallery here. If you know exactly what type of turtle he is, please post a comment. I did some research for turtles in Oklahoma, but it was not helpful. He didn't look like any of them. In fact, he's one of the prettier turtles I've seen in Oklahoma.

Now 10 years later, that single day and the two years it took me to edit the images and write the stories in that book, I realize it continues to impact me. It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
