Artist's Description
Roscoe Grimes on "Nasty Little Mare" during the 2007 Oklahoma Centennial Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive that pushed its way from the Red River up most of Highway 81. In the background is fellow drover, J Day Williams aka "Buckethead" of Wakita.
Grimes of Pond Creek, Oklahoma, has been a farmer and cattleman as long he can remember. On the trail, he was 52, but admitted to feeling 80 'some days.'
"You know it was one of those kind of deals I need to prove to myself that I could still do something like that, and do it without being a hindrance and a burden on others. Could still contribute in some way and relive some history which is a part of our state. This is one of the things I dreamed of as a child, herding cattle on the Chisholm Trail." - Grimes said.
This was one of those once in a lifetime experiences for him. He is featured in my book Riding The Chisholm Trail: Once in a lifetime (2009).

It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
