Artist's Description

There's no porch, so step carefully. An extremely old building reveals a mishmash of architectural details, from the red brick, to what appears to be concrete or stucco, and a fine handcrafted screen door from long ago. This is an image I photographed in 2005, southern Colorado, and for years I never paid attention to the structures other than a quick photograph. Now, in 2022, I have decided to share these images, but have no way of knowing more about the building since I no longer live in that little rural community. I may have to take a road trip to re-photograph and research. The details of that wooden screen are gorgeous. I appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship its creator took.

Now 10 years later, that single day and the two years it took me to edit the images and write the stories in that book, I realize it continues to impact me. It's given me a new appreciation of our country's history and what it took for our pioneers, my ancestors, to forge what we now enjoy and many times undervalue. While it took me most of my life to appreciate these things, reflection...
