Artist's Description
Constance Whitney's bronze sculpture was the first piece of public art installed on the grounds of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Titled "Tribute to Range Riders" the bucking bronco is symbolic of western life and a tribute to cowboys. The sculpture has a tale of political drama, in the effort to unveil it, with a 27-year span from time of installation to official dedication in 1957. Warren's love for the west began during childhood and she filled many notebooks with her drawings, mostly of horses, as noted on the Oklahoma State Capitol Art Collection website.
Constance Whitney Warren, January 17, 1888 – October 11, 1948, was an American sculptor. She had quite a career as an artist. Warren exhibited at the Paris Salon and her reputation spread to the United States.
