Artist's Description

Constance Whitney's bronze sculpture was the first piece of public art installed on the grounds of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Titled "Tribute to Range Riders" the bucking bronco is symbolic of western life and a tribute to cowboys. The sculpture has a tale of political drama, in the effort to unveil it, with a 27-year span from time of installation to official dedication in 1957. Warren's love for the west began during childhood and she filled many notebooks with her drawings, mostly of horses, as noted on the Oklahoma State Capitol Art Collection website.

Constance Whitney Warren, January 17, 1888 – October 11, 1948, was an American sculptor. She had quite a career as an artist. Warren exhibited at the Paris Salon and her reputation spread to the United States. Her list of sculptures include: the 1921–25 Texas Cowboy Monument at the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas, the 1926–29 Tribute to Range Riders at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the...
