This was a ferris wheel that was in a park for years. It now sits unused on Main Street Duncan, Oklahoma. I photographed this May 22, 2011, as a storm front was moving in. I knew there was high risk for tornados, but wanted to capture as much as I could, of course, wondering if things like this would still be around after the storms blew up. Little did I know at that moment that it would become a day in history for tornado devastation - in Joplin, MO. I consider the ferris wheel a monument, or landmark, for Stephens County, since it has been around for so long.

Everyone needs a once in a lifetime experience. You know the kind. One that leaves a lasting impression and even changes how you look at life, how you look at your surroundings. I wrote that in a book I published in 2009, "Riding the Chisholm Trail: Once in a Lifetime" after I had that experience that changed the way I looked at the world around me. Now 10 years later, that single day and the two years it took me to edit the images and write the stories in that book, I realize it continues to impact me.
